Recreation Committee Report1-11-12
Our two Christmas parties were a great success. I did not hear any negative remarks about either venue. We came in well under budget. For the Adult Christmas Party the food was great. The DJ was very professional. There, were great door prizes and the overall atmosphere was very nice.
The Children’s Christmas Party was really almost overwhelming. Metalsa footed most of the bill for it. The company has absorbed the cost of the gifts that Santa gave the children. This was a great savings for the local.
As most of you know, we will have to figure out which direction to head in the future. The National Labor Relations Board has some very strict rules about what can and can’t be done with union dues, so going forward we will have to be very cautious how to give to the membership and it’s children. I would like to thank all the members of the recreation committee. Also, Eric Parrish and Shirley Bennett for all that they have done for us concerning recreation for the membership.
In one of our Recreation Committee meetings we kind of tossed around ideas for future events. Among those were, easter egg hunt for the children. A Relay for Life team. Possibly a movie night outside of the plant, where we could bring the family have snacks, hotdogs, cotton candy, popcorn and sodas while watching a movie. Maybe, a Texas Hold’em Tournament or card night. Those were just some ideas tossed around. If anyone has any ideas or are very passionate about an activity and would like to head up an event, please let one of the bargaining committee or recreation committee members know.
Anyone whom may be interested in joining the Recreation Committee or that would like to be Recreation Committee Chairperson please feel free to inquire.
